Undergraduate Projects

ADVERTISING AND PR CAMPAIGNS ----------------------------------------
The senior course required for all advertising majors at UNL is called Advertising and PR Campaigns. At the start of the semester, the class was divided into three groups to create a complete campaign for a non-profit organization. Our client was Nebraska's Centennial Mall in Lincoln, NE - they were (are) planning a major renovation for the mall and wanted help spreading the word. This was my group's example for a television commercial for the final client presentation. We decided to appeal to the emotions of our potential audience and this was the result:

MASS MEDIA IN SOCIETY --------------------------------------------------------
In the summer of 2010, I took a class called Mass Media in Society. It took a look at how mass media affects the world around us and how we, as mass media professionals, can perform our jobs in the most ethical and moral way possible. This is my final project for the class - for part of the project, we had to pair up and choose and issue that was currently affecting our society, and we had to figure out how we, as media professionals, could use the media to try and change the issue. My partner and I examined how class affects the American Dream. I wrote the article featured below and also designed the layout.

PRINCIPLES AND PROMOTIONAL WRITING ---------------------------------
This is a video from my first advertising class called Principles and Promotional Writing. The assignment was to research why young college students weren't eating fruit and create an ad to persuade them to eat the recommended daily amount. Although I thought my group's idea was pretty solid, after its production, I learned it's important to put myself in the audience's shoes and ask, "Would this entice me?"

BOX AWESOME POSTERS --------------------------------------------------------------
A friend of mine worked for a concert venue in Lincoln called Box Awesome. He asked me to make a couple posters for a few upcoming shows, and these are some of the final products. They were printed as 11x17 posters in full color.

STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS GRAPHICS (AD 333) ------------------
These first two samples were part of an assignment to mimic the Absolut Vodka ads. The goal was to describe yourself and your school (UNL) solely through visual metaphors. So for the Absolute UNL ad, my metaphor was that, much like the UNL N shown here, my school experience faded and got more boring as the years went by. And for the Absolute Me ad, I was conveying to the audience that my life was stressful and oftentimes I felt like I quickly ran out of gas.

For the third sample, the assignment was to concept the ad with pencil roughs before turning to the computer. This project was also the first color ad my class worked on.

These last two samples were from an assignment to create a tri-fold brochure. This was more challenging because the class had to design this according to the UNL toolbox. We also had to include all the provided information and at least one photo with a caption and make everything come together in a visually appealing way. The first sample is the outside of the brochure and the second in the inside.
