Undergraduate Jobs

THE DAILY NEBRASKAN NEWSPAPER -------------------------------------------
Below are a few samples from my time as a page designer for the UNL student newspaper. In this position, I worked on each section of the paper, and I eventually became Co-Design Chief after just my freshman year. Most pages featured were among the many that won awards from the UNL Publication Board - one in particular that won two national newspaper design awards.

This sports feature page showcased basketball senior Aleks Maric. It was meant to be a goodbye after a great four years on the court, but it turns out it was a pretty positive spread for me too. This spread won:
  • First place - Best Sports Page, Best of Collegiate Design competition (Oct. 08)
  • Second place - Best Sports Feature Page, Student Society of Newspaper Design (Apr. 08)
  • First place - Best Sports Page, UNL Publication Board (Apr. 08)

During the 2008 Presidential Campaign, former first daughter Chelsea Clinton came to UNL and candidate Barack Obama came to the Omaha Civic Auditorium to speak. The design needed to equally cover each party so as not to promote one over the other and remain objective. It won first place Best News Page from the UNL Pub. Board in April 2008.

This was from the Back to School edition in August of 2008 and introduced the opinion editors to the readers. It won first place Best Opinion Page from the UNL Pub. Board in December 2008.

Won first place Best Sports Page from the UNL Pub. Board in December 2008.

Won third place Best Features Page from the UNL Pub. Board in December 2008.

SHELDON MUSEUM OF ART ------------------------------------------------------------
Here are a few pieces from my Marketing/PR internship at the Sheldon Museum of Art. One of my main duties was to create advertisements for upcoming exhibitions. I was able to work with several media in order to reach my target audience including: email, the company website, postcards, large lobby posters, desktop posters, large banners and building-side signs.

The first sample is the front of a postcard I created for an exhibition called Art by Women. It was printed in color by an outside printing company and was mailed in bulk to Sheldon's clientele.

The second design was a poster I created for an exhibition entitled Play's the Thing: Paintings and Sculptures of Jun Kaneko, which was displayed in a gold frame in the Sheldon's Great Hall. It was printed on a glossy, double-sided foam mount board. It was approximately 15x20 inches.

This was an 8.5x11 inch poster for a three day symposium about floral art. It also went on display in the Great Hall and sat on the main front desk. The background images were used on three corresponding postcards for the even, so that the images, as well as the colors and font, remained consistent through each media.

THE LIED CENTER FOR PERFORMING ARTS -----------------------------
These are examples of a viral campaign I oversaw while on the public relations team. The goal was to increase attendance and spread the word about upcoming shows by sending out digital vouchers to the target audience in the Lincoln and Omaha areas. Word of mouth was very important with this campaign, so we incentivized the recipients by offering discounted ticket prices. The vouchers remained digital and were typically about 4x6 inches.
